The Baker electric automobile was one of the first electric automobiles to be mass produced to the public. The first Baker electric automobile was a simple two seat car. Thomas Edison was one of the first people to own the Baker electric automobile. Before the mass production of gas operated cars, the Baker electric car was one of the best selling cars in the United States. It is estimated that 800 cars were sold in 1906 alone. The original Baker electric automobile Torpedo broke the land speed record at the time which was 75 miles per hour. In addition to breaking this record, the Baker electric automobile is known for being the first car to have seat belts.
