True electric automobiles run strictly on electricity and require charging. One of these being used in the United States is the Smart Car. This is an electric automobile that runs on electricity and is very compact. Another car, the Reva, is also an electric car that runs strictly on electric power generated from a high powered, rechargeable battery.

There are pros and cons to the electric car as they stand today. The pros are that they do not emit toxic fumes, as is the case with gasoline powered cars. Thus, the electric car is safer for the environment. They are much cheaper to run, as well. The cons regarding the electric automobiles are that due to the fact that they run on battery power, they need to be very lightweight. The Smart Car is a very compact car that appears to be about half the size of an ordinary car. Because of their small size, they are not considered to be safe for ordinary highway driving. They also need to be recharged after about 70 miles.

The hybrid electric automobiles are very promising. They are the same size as an ordinary car and get the performance that you would expect to find in any other type of car. They emit less fumes and are much cheaper to run than cars that run strictly on gasoline.

For neighborhood driving, many people are switching to small, electric automobiles. These can get you around town to do errands and are easy to drive. They can carry a passenger and have room in the back for groceries or other items that you might pick up in your travels. They are the ideal car for just getting around the neighborhood, or if you live in a small town.

For highway driving, the hybrid electric automobile is preferred because it is larger and can keep up with the other cars on the road. It does not have to be recharged as often and will still end up giving you good mileage for your money. Many car makers have now started making electric cars as the demand for an electric automobile is astounding. In the United States, there is nearly a year on the waiting list for the Smart Car, which is the most popular, all electric automobile in the country.
